Issue: Unable to Create Local Instance in Neo4j Desktop – "Create" Button Disabled
AI Dev
Hi all,
I'm trying to set up a local database instance using Neo4j Desktop, but I'm running into an issue during the instance creation process. Here's what's happening:
🛠️ Steps I Followed:
I installed and opened Neo4j Desktop.
I clicked on "Add" → "Local DBMS" to create a new local instance.
The form asked me to fill out the following details:
Instance Name – I entered a name.
Neo4j Version – However, the dropdown is empty, and I'm unable to select any version.
Database User – This is pre-filled with neo4j and not editable.
Password – I entered a password.
❌ Problem:
Despite filling out all visible fields:
The "Create" button remains grayed out and unclickable.
I suspect the missing Neo4j version might be causing the issue, but there’s no option to select or download one from the UI at this step.
🔍 Things I Tried:
Entered a strong password (Neo4jTest@123) to ensure it passes validation.
Restarted Neo4j Desktop.
Checked my internet connection (in case version download is needed).
📌 Question:
Why is the Neo4j version dropdown empty, and how do I populate it?
What else could be preventing the "Create" button from becoming active?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi Al, I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue. Please could you let me know what OS and version of Desktop you are running (in settings). Are you running Desktop behind a corporate proxy/firewall? If so it should allow connections to https://dist.neo4j.org to check for app and DBMS/instance updates

I have the same problem and haven't been able to find a solution, I'm an Apple computer.
